The Pebble Steel is the second watch offering from Pebble, building upon their original watch with a more premium design. The Pebble Steel comes in both a Black Matte and Brushed Stainless version with Gorilla Glass and an anti-fingerprint coating. The Pebble Steel also adds an RGB LED charge indicator and a new charging connector. Each version ships with a matching metal band as well as an interchangeable black leather strap.
The Pebble Steel was introduced on January 6th 2014 during CES in Las Vegas. The device is now available to preorder for $249 and will begin shipping on January 28th.
The developer behind what I have dubbed the Swiss army knife of Pebble Apps, aptly titled Smart Watch Companion, is at it again bringing even more delightful features to this rich application. As a proud owner of a BlackBerry Z30, compatible native applications are rather scarce and ones such as this certainly do make up for the slack in terms of functionality.Continue Reading →
If you've been having some issues with the 2.0 firmware on your Pebble and/or the Pebble appstore on your Android device, one option you may want to consider is downgrading to the last stable 1.X version for a while. Dropping down can save you a lot of connection and battery life headaches, and give you stability until the 2.0 versions are a bit improved.Continue Reading →
For those of you who own a BlackBerry 10 device and a Pebble, the choices for native applications in the storefront are rather scarce. Recently, Talk2Watch released a pro version which brought with it not only BBM alerts but a scriptmode function to access notifications and scripts directly on your wrist with just a tap of a button.
Since the developer released the API to allow others to create their own Pebble companion app, it was only a matter of time before we started seeing ones with more functionality spring up. The result is Smart Watch Companion, a native BlackBerry 10 app packed with features and goodies for Pebble owners.Continue Reading →
Searching the Pebble appstore can be a ton of fun — clicking install is just so easy — but the unfortunate fact is that eventually you are going to run out of room on your watch. The Pebble smartwatch holds only 8 installed applications or watch faces currently, and those can quickly fill up — but luckily removing them is quite an easy process. With the recent update to the Pebble application on iOS and Android, with just a few clicks you can free up some space on your Pebble for a new app or watch face.Continue Reading →
While Talk2Watch Pro has only just been released, the developer is still working hard on bringing new features and two days later we have a feature called BBM Contact Manager. This now lets you see the content of BBM Group messages and assign a name to notifications so you know who sent the BBM alert or which BBM Group is active. You still can't see the content of individual BBM messages but you can see who sent them and that's a huge bonus.Continue Reading →
The Pebble Steel got a bit of a price drop today, perhaps related to yesterdays announcement of Android Wear (or maybe not, you be the judge). If you aren't looking to get a matching metal band with your Steel and are happy with just the leather option, you can grab either the Brushed Stainless or Black Matte version now for just $229.Continue Reading →
As BlackBerry 10 users will know, Talk2Watch is the best option we have right now to experience the Pebble smartwatch. It does a great job of it, even with some limitations. The developer has been working hard to bring a Pro version to the table in order to bring more features.
The developer has also created an API reference app for any developers to use to connect their apps with Talk2Watch (both versions). We already saw Watch2Watch connect with Talk2Watch. Slowly other developers are making apps to connect with Talk2Watch.Continue Reading →
This week GDC kicks off to showcase the latest and greatest in gaming, and Pebble fans aren't left out in the cold. Arriving today are three new games for your Pebble smartwatch — Mr. Runner, Icon Pop Quiz and Hatchi. These join the ranks of other Pebble games including Tiny Bird, Pebtris and Pebloid.Continue Reading →
When looking to create your own watch face for your Pebble , the watch face generator website is a great place to do that. You can create very personalised watch faces but you can't add any dynamic elements to the watch face. I’m talking about displaying the weather or being able to see the amount of unread messages you have. One app that let’s you do this is Canvas for Pebble and is available for Android users.
I have to admit, the first time I looked at Canvas, it seemed a little overwhelming and didn’t know where to start but once you get going, you’ll get the hang of it. There’s just so much you can do and customise that you can get a little lost in the beginning. Fear not, we shall get you going with using Canvas in no time.
It should be noted that Canvas will only work with Pebble 2.0. So, if you haven’t yet updated to Pebble 2.0, you won’t be able to use Canvas.Continue Reading →
If you are looking to pick up a spare charging cable for your Pebble or by chance happened to misplace or lose your original there are quite a few places to purchase a new one. No doubt there are many different retailers that offer a replacement cable for sale, however, we’ve compiled a list of the more well-known ones to ensure you are never without a charge.Continue Reading →
The Pebble appstore and Pebble 2.0 was finally made official and so Android users can now enjoy the practicality of being able to install watch faces and apps easily. Along with the official availability Pebble also announced a few more partner apps to join in the mix, one of which is Evernote.Continue Reading →
For music lovers who own a Pebble watch, it's great that you can control music right from your wrist. But for those who want to go a little further will need to look at third party apps. A good one that comes recommended by a lot of people is Music Boss. After loading it up and trying it out, it's definitely one we'd recommend here on Smartwatch Fans. Let's take closer look at the watch app.Continue Reading →
The Pebble appstore and Pebble 2.0 has finally landed for those on Android. While some people already made the jump and tried out the beta offerings, there are many who prefer the official release. Thankfully the wait is over and Android users can now start to enjoy the Pebble appstore.
With the Pebble appstore, finding and installing watch faces and apps has been made simpler since you can now find them all in one place. There isn't much to it but in true Smartwatch Fans fashion, we have a tutorial to help you out in case you get stuck.Continue Reading →
Update: So it turns out that these adapters DON'T FIT! So don't buy them. Check out the video below for a closer look.
One of the big gripes with the Pebble Steel is that you can't change the band to anything other than the included leather or metal versions. A fun accessory has popped up however that looks to change that.
It doesn't carry a fun title, but this NATO/ZULU 22mm adapter will fit on the Pebble Steel connector and let you strap on a NATO or ZULU watch band of your choice. The one catch here is that the designer hasn't actually tested these out on an actual Pebble Steel yet, so there's no guarantee that it will fit (but we'll keep our fingers crossed).Continue Reading →
I finally got my retail version of the Black Matte Pebble Steel this past week. I had my review unit for a few weeks prior (read our review!), so I've only been Pebble Steel-less for about two weeks now — not too much suffering there. Even though I had already gotten over the initial YES phase, I was still excited to get mine so that I could try out the leather band — one thing that was missing with my review offering.Continue Reading →

Today is finally the day! I got my hands on my retail Black Matte Pebble Steel — and in turn I'm passing along another stellar unboxing video so you can check out the goods as well. Nothing too fancy here that we didn't see with the original review unit, but we do finally get to see the included leather band that we didn't have a chance to check out before.Continue Reading →
You have a finely-tooled Android smartphone, which you keep on the bleeding edge of all things software. It's nothing for you to grab a USB cable and start flashing things on a moments notice. You will have the most up-to-date Android device possible, no matter what hoops are needing jumped through. You're among friends here.
What if you also have a Pebble to go along with your sleek Android sex machine? Did you know it's just as easy to keep things updated to the latest and greatest there, too? There are even beta builds to flash! Follow along.
*Update* Sure enough, right as I post this I got my notification, so my Black Matte Pebble Steel is on the way. (should have posted this sooner!)
We've been getting lots of emails from frustrated users that are still waiting on their Pebble Steel. It seems that those who ordered the Brushed Stainless model are in good shape, but everyone who is waiting on a Black Matte version is doing just that — waiting. Pebble has said they are having some delays, but there has been no official statement thus far as to just what the holdup is, leaving many customers out wondering just what the deal is.Continue Reading →
Tasker is highly popular app on Android. It allows you to carry out lots of different tasks, automated tasks. You can set it up to perform tasks by way of a trigger. Like a touch of a button, an event, certain time or location or even when you open an app. A bit like an 'if this, do that' kind of app. There are many different options available that you can do quite a lot of things with it. Both basic and advanced.
We've seen a forum member make use of the Tasker app and his Pebble to control the door to his garage. While that is something of a more advanced nature, you can see what can be done with this app. But for this post, we’re going to start with the basics and get you all set up with some simple tasks.Continue Reading →
If you're anxiously awaiting the official release of the Pebble 2.0 app for Android, you'll have to hang in there a bit longer. If you're the adventurous type however, you can now download Beta 10 of the app and give it the ol' run around in the meantime. All you need to do is make sure you're registered in the Pebble Developer Portal and you're good to go.Continue Reading →
